As if it weren’t enough for the physical realm, we have been introduced to yet another level of cheating, Cyber Cheating. Aka computer sex, internet sex, net sex, sexting, or virtual sex. Yes, just you, your computer and perhaps a webcam if you’re really feeling “lucky”. With a little computer knowledge and a little imagination, one can create the “perfect imaginary partner”. Cybersex has become increasingly popular over the past few years for both genders.
If you read our February Blog on “Infidelity vs Loyalty, A Battle of The Sexes“, and we hope you did, you may ask, “is Cyber Cheating” the same as Infidelity or being Disloyal? Can Cyber Cheating lead to “the real thing”? Is it realistic to say that infidelity and disloyalty are defined by the two parties in the relationship? That it doesn’t matter what people outside the relationship consider to be sex, what other people consider cheating? “But honey, there was no physical contact”. For some partners that still doesn’t make it “ok”. There is a degree of disagreement over whether Cybersex is a form of infidelity & disloyalty. While it does not involve physical contact, critics claim that the powerful emotions involved can cause physical & emotional stress in a relationship.
What Matters Most
Whether or not cybersex is considered cheating depends on the couple. Some couples who have a more open relationship may find it perfectly acceptable, while more traditional couples may consider it a betrayal. What matters most is it matters what you and your significant other may believe–after all, it’s your partner’s feelings at stake.
So, is Cyber Cheating the same as cheating the old fashion way? I guess the answer would be “ À chacun son propre”, (translate) “To each his own”.
Once you and your computer begin to explore the world of Cybersex or Cyber Cheating take heed. Recent studies suggest Cyber Cheating or cybersex often leads to real-life encounters. Cyber Cheating is one of the fastest-growing addictions in our time today.
